Assessing Young Children

The best way to monitor children learning is to assess them.  When a child is assessed or measured, their development and progress should be looked at.  Children learns at different rates but along the same guidelines.  If their development is being tracked, early intervention can take place if the child is behind.  If no action is needed at the time, then a child should still be assessed but later, to see is their development is still on track.

In Asia children are assessed by using portfolios, test, quizzes, and by self and peer assessment. Multiple measurements taken across time provide a more comprehensive picture is students ability to use Chinese for meaniful purpose than would an assessment scheme that focuses on students ability as measured by test and quizzes alone. 1. I believe that the way we assess them is very important and it takes observing them more than giving test and quizzes. More formative assessments than summative assessments will show their progress and where they are headed and what needs to be reiterated. I'm not sure that I like peer reviewed work, unless it's proof reading and guiding each other. It can be embarrassing for students to show their work to another student.

  2. Hello Kesha,
Assessing children are vital it helps teachers to perform a common assessment that is a positive approach to learning more about children's progress, this type of assessment is performed so teachers can create instruction and identify difficulties that their children are having. I know as well that giving test quizzes for assessment is not enough to define what a child is in need of there will definitely have to be more testing and evaluations after that. Peer work is not always fair and positive that's why its best that the professional do the assessments.

  3. You are right children do learn at a different rate and they shouldn't be labeled because of it.I hate it when teachers at head start would say that to me because the child would fall a little behind and they would use the comment of they are slow, in my opinion it's no such thing as slow, Children learn on different levels.
